Key STATISTICS
A Medscape.com survey published last year revealed that the majority of nurses—71%—say that they had been sexually harassed by a patient. Of those responding, 90% were female nurses, 10% male.
The overwhelming majority of home health aides are women—at 89%—and more than half are people of color. These workers, who typically provide in-home care for low wages, often work in individualized settings where they can become isolated and vulnerable to exploitation.
A 2018 report by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine found up to half of female medical students are sexually harassed during their training.
